Passing means 32/40. Good news: the attestation (certificate of success) does not expire, and you can retake the exam as many times as you need.

Passing the exam
You pass with at least 32 correct answers out of 40 (80%). If you pass, you receive an attestation (certificate of success) proving you have met the civic requirement.
An attestation with no expiry date
The attestation of success has no period of validity: once obtained, it remains valid over time. You do not have to retake it later for the same procedure.
Unlimited retakes
If you do not reach 32/40, you can retake the exam as many times as needed, with no limit on attempts. Each new session is simply paid for again at the centre.
Good to know: the carte de résident « covers » the CSP
This is a useful nuance of article R.413-12-1 of the CESEDA: passing the exam with the « carte de résident » (CR) mention also satisfies the condition for the carte de séjour pluriannuelle (CSP). In other words, the CR attestation counts for the CSP.
The reverse, however, is not true: a CSP attestation is not enough for the carte de résident. Keep the hierarchy of mentions in mind:
naturalisation ⊃ carte de résident ⊃ carte de séjour pluriannuelle
